Calculators
Calculators
This page links you to web-calculators that you can use to check your
work. Note that it is better to solve problems without the
web-calculators and then use them to check your work, because setting
up the problem by hand on paper, doing the complete
unit analysis,
is the only way to build intuition for energy analysis problems.
Instructions for using calculators
The calculators are based on
downloadable Excel spreadsheets
contained in a single file.
Therefore numbers must be input in a style recognized by Excel.
Specifically, to input numbers in scientific notation use 'E' to
represent multiplication by powers of 10.
Examples:
- 2.3 x 107 must be entered as 2.3E7, with no additional spaces
- 6.692 x 10-6 must be entered 6.693E-6, with no additional spaces
Output notation follows the same rules.
